A Lawsuit Has Been Filed
On July 22, 2026, Lawson Huck Gonzalez, PLLC filed a proposed statewide class action on behalf of Florida homeowners in the Circuit Court of the Ninth Judicial Circuit in and for Osceola County, Florida, against Strada Services, LLC (formerly Strada Services, Inc., doing business as Strada Electric and Strada Electric & Security) and Joseph H. Strada, Jr.
The complaint alleges that, during the COVID-19 supply shortage, Strada installed a steel core, copper clad conductor in place of the copper grounding electrode conductor required by the National Electrical Code and the Florida Building Code in thousands of newly constructed Florida homes, and that the substitution was concealed from homeowners and building inspectors.
The complaint is a public record. The allegations in it are just that — allegations — and Strada and Mr. Strada are entitled to defend against them in court.
Who May Be Affected
The filed lawsuit currently covers homes in Florida for which Strada furnished and installed the grounding electrode conductor between August 1, 2020 and May 31, 2022. Our investigation covers a broader period, because the full timeframe of the alleged practice is not yet known, and the complaint expressly reserves the right to expand the covered period as more information becomes available.

The complaint alleges affected homes are located in counties including, but without limitation, Manatee, Sarasota, Hillsborough, Pasco, Polk, Lake, Sumter, Alachua, Duval, Volusia, Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Leon, and Bay, in communities built by homebuilders including, but without limitation, Lennar, DR Horton, KB Home, Maronda Homes, MI Homes, NVR / Ryan Homes, Dream Finders Homes, Toll Brothers, Meritage Homes, and Medallion Homes.
A Simple Check You Can Do Outside Your Home
The complaint alleges that the substituted wire looks like copper but has a steel core, and that a magnet will stick to it. Copper is not magnetic.
- Locate your electric meter or main service panel on the outside of your home. Look for a bare, copper-colored wire running out of the bottom of the equipment and down into the ground, or to a metal rod driven into the ground nearby.
- Touch a household magnet to the bare wire only.
- If the magnet sticks to the wire, your home may be affected, and we encourage you to submit the form below, ideally with a photo.
Why It May Matter
The grounding electrode conductor is a safety component. It provides a path for electrical current to reach the earth during a fault, surge, or lightning event.
The complaint alleges that the substituted wire conducts electricity at a fraction of copper's efficiency and elevates the risk of overheating, arcing, and fire, and that affected homes may require inspection and remediation to comply with the Florida Building Code.
If the allegations are proven, the defect could also bear on code compliance, insurability, and resale disclosure obligations.
